Penny James is a violinist based in London. She is a versatile musician with many interests including ensemble playing, folk music and is a dedicated and passionate teacher. She offers lessons in violin, piano, cello and music theory from beginners to advanced.
Penny currently teaches as a peripatetic violin teacher as part of Stretto Music and has worked with organisations including Animate Orchestra, Greenwich Music Hub, Music Maestros, The Future Music Group, Trinity Laban's Teenies Group and Boppin' Bunnies. She is also a very enthusiastic orchestral player and has played with many ensembles including Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra in Finland, the London Euphonia Orchestra, the Philharmonia Britannica and GoodenSemble. She has played under the batons of Sakari Oramo, Roy Goodman, Gerry Cornelius and Diego Masson to name but a few. Penny plays with Matt Tighe as part of the Hygge Duo. Together they provide live music for events, weddings and educational workshops. Organised and self-motivated Penny has been expanding her portfolio career over the past several years whilst studying full time at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She is currently in her 4th and final year studying with John Crawford. In 2016 she went on an Erasmus Exchange in Finland where she studied with Reijo Tunkkari and Kreeta-Maria Kentala.
